The fourth annual Record Store Day is almost upon us and this year promises to be the most exciting to date. There will be exclusive releases from Mumford and Sons, The Beach Boys, Ray LaMontagne, and dozens of other artists. We'll also have tons of rare vintage vinyl, new releases, and re-releases. Throughout the day we'll have live music from great local artists, special events and specials. There is something here for everyone and it promises to be an exciting day.

Live Music

• Rod Hamdallah
  • Rod is a blues Dynamo. It seems like all he has to do is look at a guitar and it starts making wonderful music. He plays raw and powerful electric blues covers and original compositions. He and his band are something of local legends on the blues scene, and with good reason.
• Ocean Is Theory
  • Ocean Is Theory is Josh Williams (vocals/guitars), Nick Novak (guitars/vocals), Kevin Cerbone (bass/vocals) and Clay Carter (drums/vocals). They've been playing together since 2007 and recently have been signed to their first label deal. There music is catchy, almost poppy, while remaining at the same time complex and accessible. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.
• Lauren St. Jane and the Dead Westerns
  • Fronted by fiery vocalist Lauren St. Jane, The Dead Westerns are certainly a band to keep your eye on. They are frequently found touring with, and playing with other great regional acts, including American Idol Contestant Paul McDonald and The Grand Magnolias. There spirited blend of rock and country, with that hint of blues makes listening to them unique and rewarding.

Goodies

Record Store Day is famous for it's goodies; the limited edition releases, indie exclusive pre-releases and free-with-purchase giveaways are a large part of what makes the day so special. We've ordered all kinds of goodies just for you, our loyal customers! Many of these are extremely limited titles, so we can't guarantee that we'll get all that we've ordered (but that's really part of the fun.)

In case you don't already know what's coming out this year, here is a sampling of some of the coolest releases:

• The Dharohar Project
  • This is a Live 10" EP Featuring Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling in India
• Live Fall 2010
  • Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs' previously Download Only EP. Featuring some great tracks off of their newest award winning album, released here in High Fidelity for the first time.
• Eric Clapton Unplugged
  • Released on Vinyl for the first time.
• A Collection of Mono singles
  • Tracks from John Mayall, Eric Clapton, The 13th Floor Elevators, Roy Orbison, and many others, all released in their glorious original Mono mixes.

A good friend of the store decided to sell his copy of  Dave Matthews Band's Before These Crowded Streets.

Released in 1998, this is  the first DMB album to be pressed on vinyl. It had a very limited run, and copies are becoming more and more scarce as time goes by. This is the holy grail for DMB collectors. Several of you have asked for this, and this is the first one we've been able to find so, we're offering it to you, our customers, first.

Special guest Tim Reynolds is featured on all tracks.

Several short musical interludes appear between songs, as well as a clip in which LeRoi Moore is heard answering his cell phone. An additional excerpt from the outro of "The Last Stop" can be found as a Hidden Track following "Spoon."

Paul McDonald - The Grand Magnolias

Check out this great track from the local act The Grand Magnolias. Their lead singer, Paul McDonald just broke into the top 24 on American Idol.

Let's all give him some support! We've still got a couple of the band's CDs behind the counter, if you're interested.
